The Cardiology Department is one of the most prestigious centres in Kazakhstan due to experienced and professional doctors who successfully apply all laboratory and instrumental practices in cardiology. The Department provides the population with specialised and highly specialised medical treatment and diagnostics in the field of cardiology.

Major objectives of the Department include:

· improvement and implementation of new state-of-the-art innovation treatment methods;

· communications and continuity with other medical diagnostics divisions of healthcare organizations.

The Department functions include:

· taking part in research and development, collection of clinical and research data to develop new specialised and highly qualified medical support methods;

· coordination of liaison between the Department and other structural divisions of the Centre;

· performance of other functions included into the Department competence;

· implementation and development of national and international standards.

The Centre is also a main facilitator and curator in the field of chronical heart disorders in Zhambyl Region.

Under the 2019-2024 Road Map for Zhambyl Region, Exhibit No 23, health organizations initiated diagnostics of chronic heart failures (CHF) at various stages and preventive measures for CHF. A total of 48,000 patients suffering CHF at various stages were examined in Zhambyl Region and the treatment plan for various illness/disorder stages was elaborated:

Monitoring of patients with high risk of chronic heart failures if there are no structural heart changes and/or chronic heart failure symptoms (stage A) and co-structural (organic) heart changes (without CHF symptoms (stage B) at the out-patient treatment stage.

Monitoring of patients with heart disorders with current structural (organic/morphological) changes (stage C) or symptoms specified in the medical history. Patients with refractory chronic heart failures that require special interventions (interventions, surgical treatment – LVAD implantation, heart transplantation) (stage D) are examined by our cardiologists at the out-patient and in-patient stages at the Scientific and Clinical Centre for Cardiac Surgery and Transplantology.

A special services to identify CHF and create the unified patient database in Kazakhstan were created in the region.

Our centre is the second largest centre in Kazakhstan after the National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Centre in Nur-Sultan in terms of implantation of the left ventricular assist device (LVAD). In 2018, the first left ventricular assist device implantation was performed in Zhambyl Region with the assistance of colleagues from EGE University in Izmir, Turkey. Two surgeries were performed in 2020 in association with the National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Centre in Nur-Sultan. In 2021, six surgeries were performed by the Centre. Eight surgeries per year are planned for 2022, 5 of them have already been performed. Total number of 14 left ventricular assist devices have been implanted since 2018. At the start of 2022, the team of doctors from Kyrgyzstan attended the LVAD training in our Centre.
